I P O H

I had their Good Ol' Days aka concentrated lime juice served ala martini style.
The last day of my trip before I head back to Kuching the next morning, Van took to me to Purple Cane Tea House where we had their delicious green tea curry fried rice. Sounds like an odd combination, but trust me when I say it packs a punch. In a good way of course :)
Succulent not to mention sinful roasted pork.

I'm sure all of you know that Ipoh's famous for its white coffee. Forget Ipoh Old Town restuarant people. In Ipoh, you get the real deal :)

My wonderful steaming bowl of hor fun :)

Any trip to Ipoh just wouldn't be complete without Ngah Choy Kai.
Lovely dim sum breakfast at the famous Foh San.

Hi again :) I think I've been on a hiatus long enough. I just got back from my recent trip to Ipoh to visit the BFF. I'm afraid my appetite has doubled since coming back. Aunty Jessie ( Vannie's mum ) was an excellent tour guide/host. She has fed us well. Miss Estima ( you know who you are:) refers to our trip as "Get Fat Camp". Which to a certain extent is rather accurate. I'm pretty sure my belly's round enough to have its own circumference now. Heh. Anyways, I've had so much fun in Ipoh. The food was just awesome. I'd trade sarawak laksa for chee cheong fun anytime.

Anyways, Chandler ( my cam ) has been in the ICU for half a month now after the flooding of my bag incident, so I had to resort to taking pictures with Vannie's D90. Needless to say, I would've smuggled it home. I absolutely love Vannie's D90. But after lugging it around for a whole day my neck wasn't too happy about it. I've always been a Canon person so I had a bit of a problem getting used to it. Therefore, the limited amount of pictures I took because most of them were out of focus or I simply couldn't bother taking Kino ( Van's D90 ) out for pictures. It's so heavy. Awesome. But heavy.

Please do plan a trip to Ipoh if any of you get a chance to go. Cross my heart the food you'll have will be nothing short of delicious :)

Friday

My Tumblr

Right now, I love tumblr more than facebook and blogger. Nuf said.

Sunday

Glorious Chicken Rice.

Vege of the day :)
Half a chicken looks like this. HUGE plate. It's always good to share :)
They offer an amazing array of refrehments. Not the usual drinks you get like Yeo's or the likes. But drinks like Sugar Cane, Aloe Vera, Honey and Chrysanthemum tea. You know, refreshments that actually refreshes.

Hock King Cafeteria is in the row of shop houses opposite Grand Continental hotel. And the chicken rice there is ambrosia. Exaggerating much, but the bottom line is, if you really like your chicken rice, you might want to try this place out for yourself. My chicken rice's awesome...how about yours?

Thursday

Delizious.

The chocolate muffin wasn't nice at all. But granting the price of the muffin which was 80 cents, I'm not complaining :) The eclair was AWESOME. Nuff said.
My Snapper Fillet.RM18.90. After the first bite, my face was pure bliss. Hence, the boyfriend thought something was really wrong. My pureblissface is fugly. Be warned. Thank goodness, I don't use it often.
Pasta Salad. RM8.90.

I just want to get this post over with as soon as possible because you need to understand that this is an arduous task for someone with an empty belly. *Deep breaths* Ok you can say that Delizze's new? From what I've observed, customers are aplenty. So that means their definitely doing well. Had my dinner there last night and albeit the fact that it was a weekday, the place was full. What is this?? Sadly, the salads were sold out, much to my chagrin. But hey this is pretty ironic because I don't even like salads. But people keep telling me it's good. It's good. I certainly hope it is. This is getting slightly long winded. So I'll just end it with a gold star ok? I'm impressed with the food and the service. You would expect such a busy place to offer you lousy service but I guess Delizze just isn't part of the statistics. Wait...I think I'll give the place several gold stars.

Monday

Takoyaki!

Ooooh. Now this I find, like the rest of the crowd very fascinating. Sugar painting :) Dude! That's my butterfly there! RM4 for my butterfly. RM10 for some kid's dragon. I wanted to ask whether he could make me a camera or something. I'll try the next time I go :) More pictures then ok?
*No worries, no Paul the Octopus was harmed in the process. Hurhurhur. I'm so lame. Heh.
YES! Takoyaki :) The best I've ever had. A very very long queue but very worth the wait indeed. The only downside now, is that I don't think I'll ever settle for Sushi King's takoyaki ever again. Sigh. How?
To my horror, my comrades bought those damn durian pancakes. What atrocity. But heck, what's coming up has got to be one of the best things I've ever had in the Kuching Festival.
I hate durians. I do but this seemed like a big whoop to everyone so I'm uploading this for those of you who enjoy ( I can't understand ) THIS revoltingly pungent fruit. There you go.

I'm sure all of you know it's that time of the year again. Hell yeah, the Kuching Festival. Food food food and nothing but for the whole month of August! :)

Saturday

Don't.

Midnight rain.
This song on repeat.
Tears are silent.
A long car ride.
Futile.
It's not talking.
Stop refreshing.
Go to bed.
Without her.
Short.
How low.
Don't get used to it.
This isn't a competition.

Make it stop.

My Grandpa.

The man in the white shirt whose being interviewed is my grandpa :) Now this episode was shown a long time ago but I don't know why I was pretty ambivalent about it then. My grandpa has been doing this for well over 60 years now and I'm so proud of him. I've always taken what he does for granted. But after spending the night, asking my grandpa questions about his past and listening to his stories of how he came to Kuching all the way from a remote village in Fujian province, I've a newfound respect for my grandpa.

I guess you could jolly well call this an epiphany or maybe it was just the after effects of the Starbucks caramel macchiato I had earlier in the evening...hmmm. Anyways, I've never been ignorant of this. Hell, I've even tried taking up the "er hu" but damnit the fiddle hated me :( And after two agonizing lessons, sitting around just envying those around me making magic with their own "er hu", I glared at 'em grapes and convinced myself that those grapes looked sour, will taste sour and walked away exactly like what Mr Fox did. Till this very day, I madly envy anyone who plays any form of chinese instrument.

To everyone, please take the time, sit down with either one of your grandparents ( even if it's just 15 minutes ) and ask them for stories about their past and trust me, they will share with all their hearts whatever they can remember. And it is for you to remember whatever they can share. Every family has a history. I think it's time you embrace and learn about yours :)

Friday

19.

I'm 19 now and I feel....the same? No life changing revelations or mind blowing epiphanies on my birthday. Nope. Zero. No inordinately lavish gifts or va va voom parties. I spent the Friday, Saturday and Sunday (basically the weekends) with people who matter the most to me. Feasting on good food. Exactly how I want it to be. Though, I would have loved to spend it with a few other dear acquaintances, those who had to return to the Land of Marsupials as well, another chum happens to be in Ipoh and a racoon was lost? All in all, a very big thank you to everyone who took the trouble to write on my wall, the texts and emails. Thanks to everyone so much for all the lovely lovely wishes. I can't thank everyone personally, so I'll have to make do here. Thanks Jo for being so sweet and calling all the way here. I'm very blessed indeed :) You guys made this lassie here very happy.

I hope the other 2nd of August babies have had a swell time as well :)

Oh oh! Look at my balloons! :) You got or not??

No More Laksa.

When Fat Cat's laksa stall is all out, what do you have instead? Honestly, I have no idea. I've just got pictures of the kueh chap I had there. Well, I've tasted kueh chap's that's way better than this though.

Monday

I Was Like Bla bla bla.

A very sumptuous spread indeed :)

Venison in sauce. You guessed right, I forgot the name of the sauce -_-

Butter prawn. I thought the sauce tasted amazing :) Sinful...but amazing.
Soup with scallops. Don't know the name for this but the scallops were very fresh.
Chef's noodle. The noodles were unexpectedly....delicious. Sure, the dish looks bland but it doesn't taste bland at all :)
You don't say, that is a very creative way to use those dim sum baskets.

They serve peanuts and pickled papaya slices as appetizers.
Bla bla bla is similiar to a kopitiam but with the twist of a more fancy menu that offers dishes at an extravagant price. That's the only way I can sum up the whole place. Heh.

Wednesday

The Salmon Teriyaki Zen Beto, RM30. I see no Teriyaki but that's the name of it on the bill. Go figure. Oh, this is completely irrevelant, but I think chawanmushi is just disgusting. There are many ways to have eggs, but just not when it's steamed in a tea cup like container with mushrooms or radishes, the likes.
My dinner at Rakutei and this was what I had- Yaki Soba for RM15. It would have tasted really good if that damn flubug would have left me alone. It's ok to share this though and theres heaps of cabbage in it. Which is good right? :)

Tuesday

A Bowl Of Wisdom.

Behold the beauty of this bowl of yummy broth, succulent prawns and chicken with a handful of bean sprouts, served hot. Enough said. Hell, I won't even mind if I had to stand up and eat. ( Consider yourself very lucky if you can get yourself a table when you reach Choon Hui around 9ish to 10 )
The place serves Milo and coffee in ala old school style.
I'm not a big fan of popiahs but for this I'll make an exception :)
Despite of the incessant agony my protruding wisdom teeth have inflicted upon me for the past week, my taste buds were aching for laksa. So off to Choon Hui Cafe at Ban Hock road right next to Grand Continental Hotel for the best laksa you can find in Kuching. I don't think I need to say more. The name Choon Hui speaks for itself. I don't think the pictures are good enough to justify just how tasty the laksa is. On a side note, Choon Hui's also well known for their Roti Kiap, and Popiah. I'm definitely taking Van to Choon Hui when she gets here. Well, we'll deifinitely have to go very very very early and the car would definitely be miles away, but I dare say it's worth it.

Take a good look at this Vannie :)

Friday

Craving.

This should keep me happy and contented for several days or so :)

Monday

Don't Rain On My Parade.

It's going to be the most gruesome day of the week tomorrow. That's right. Monday. Yours truly will survive and so will you :)
Have a great week ahead!

Saturday

Nobody Nobody But You.

Koreana's _______ . RM20. I forgot the name of this, but on the plus side I know its noodles, with beef slices and vegetables. Sorry if that doesn't help much, but hey ho nothing else looks like this on the menu :) The noodles were chewy, reminds me of tang hoon. Very stubborn tang hoon. Heh.

Koreana's Bi Bim Bup. RM20. Huge ass portion. Do not even attempt finishing this on your own if you're a lass/lad with a wee apetite. I think everyone orders this when they dine at Koreana no? Try something out of the box instead, like their cold noodles in soup. Cross my heart, this isn't a joke.
If I could I would sing "Nobody, nobody but YOU" to kimchi anytime.
Banchan, unbeknownst to those, it means side dishes. I was hoping there would be seaweed, much to my disappointment. Side dishes are refillable by the way so go ahead and have a second round :)
It has been aeons since my last visit to Koreana. I presume the majority has been to Koreana, but what the heck I'll just go ahead with this post anywho :) The boyfriend who isn't exactly a fan of korean cuisine finally relented. Heh.
